The East Falls Flea Market at McMichael Park is a 28-year tradition. This year’s flea market June 18 was greeted by a warm sunny day. Wares were sold by 150 vendors from spaces arranged around the edge of the park, as hundreds of shoppers strolled, browsed, purchased, and nibbled funnel cake. This year, Roger Marsh organized the event. Phil Hughes, who has served many years, took a well-deserved break. Notes Roger, “Phil has served the community so quietly all these years, that I had no idea what a big job it was. I could not have done it, however, without lots of help. I especially want to thank Penn Charter, which opened its parking lot to the vendors, and the students from Philadelphia University, who helped vendors find their spaces and unload. Roger gives kudos to vendors as well: “We made some big changes this year, squeezing vendors into smaller spaces and requiring them to park blocks away. They were great about the changes. I especially want to thank them for the way they cleaned up at the end of the day; there was hardly a scrap of paper anywhere in the park.” East Falls Community Council sponsors the annual Flea Market. Proceeds support Community Council projects and grants to other community organizations.
