Pictured, and proudly wearing Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Tree Tender shirts, David L. Brown, standing, and Bill Ross put their training knowledge to use. Having successfully completed the May 2011 PHS Tree Tender Training Program, they showed future tree tender, Elisabeth Ross, how to check for root flare and weed the pit of a Paperback Maple (Acer griseum) planted by EFTT in November 2010.
A resident of Calumet Street, Mr. Brown stated he “wants to help plant trees in East Falls for the benefit of current residents and future tree tenders such as Bill’s daughter Elisabeth.” Since all trees are not alive and well such as is this Paperbark Maple, call 311 to report a dead street tree on your street. Caveat: do not apply for a street tree from PPR if you already have applied through EFTT for a TreeVitalize tree. EFTT welcomes new members all seasons of the year. The next series of PHS Tree Tender classes is slated for October. Contact PHS at (215) 988-8844 or visit the PHS website at www.pennsylvaniahorticulturalsociety.org to register.
