Falls Center Signage Two matters were presented at the June meeting of the EFCC’s Zoning Committee. The first was the long did not require Committee action.; it is posted on the EFCC website. Existing signs have been updated with current tenant information. No Committee action was required. No new signs have been proposed, however, some are contemplated. Before new signs are installed, variances will be required so that the Falls Center owner or tenants can make a presentation to the Zoning Committee and neighbors. Philadelphia Rock Gym The second agenda item was Philadelphia Rock Gym's plan to install a rock climbing facility in a portion of the old Thomas David Building at 3500 Scotts Lane. Operating hours will be noon to 10pm during the week and 10am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
There is parking for about 140 cars on site. No new signs visible from the street are planned and the Owner committed to not seek signs other than the type presently on the site. Upon questioning, the Owner stated that his company works with many public schools and would be happy to work with Mifflin School to offer opportunities to learn this demanding skill. Philadelphia Rock Gym expects to open in January 1, 2013. The Committee voted to support the plan. Citizens Planning Institute Training on the City's New Zoning Code. EFCC will be co-sponsoring a community-based zoning training workshop on the new Zoning Code. The program will be sponsored by EFCC and civic associations from Roxborough and Germantown. The program will be presented by the Citizens Planning Institute of the City Planning Commission. There will be room for 35-40 attendees.
