Momentum builds towards October and plans for a new event, dubbed “East Falls Rise: A Multi-Cultural Extravaganza,” are well underway. Since the event’s inception in June, numerous community residents, leaders, and other interested people have been meeting together to grow and organize this event which will educate, entertain, and bring together the diverse residents of the East Falls community. The event will be at McMichael Park on Saturday, October 11, 11:00-5:00. Plan to come for lunch and spend the afternoon having fun and meeting new neighbors. State Representative Jewell Williams attended a recent planning meeting to hear how preparations are proceeding and to voice his feelings and vision regarding the goals of this multi-cultural event. He and the East Falls Community Council are sponsoring the event. Numerous activities are being considered for East Fall Rise including musical acts, a pavilion showcasing the various ethnicities of our community, arts and crafts for children, informational tables for the areas businesses and organizations, poetry reading, food, vending, and much more. A shuttle bus will include pick up points on Allegheny Ave., Ridge Ave., Falls Ridge, and Abbottsford in to help our community residents reach the event. Poetry, sports, stories Education and entertainment featuring and celebrating our community’s ethic diversity is going to be the central theme. Activities being considered include Make-and-Take projects for children, games, line & square dancing, an open mic poetry slam, sports demonstrations from local area sports clubs, an adult story circle, and more. Seventeen area organizations have already confirmed that they will be participating by providing a range of informational tables and booths. We anticipate close to 40, including a newly-formed teen leadership group. Our local fire station has even offered to bring out a fire truck.
