 Many of us know the parable of the Good Samaritan - the cogent point being - a stranger got involved.
So reported Lt. Ed Bier, of the 39th P.D. regarding an ordinary morning in December, when an ordinary resident walking down the 3300 block of Indian Queen Lane was attacked by two males. It was a case of apparent attempted robbery, thwarted by passersby whose help also let to two arrests. We are our neighbors’ keepers. We thank these Good Samaritans! Lt. Bier was upbeat at the December 15th Police Service Area (PSA) #1 meeting, reporting an 18% drop in Part I crimes, and a “big drop-off” in residential burglaries. “Weather has a bearing. In police work, ‘the colder, the better,’…But the decline is also due to police patrols and citizens being more cautious,” he said and we’d like to think to some extent, due to citizen patrols via Town Watch.
A heightened vigilance seems to be warranted on Sundays and Mondays - when “scrappers” roam Eat Falls looking for stuff that’s been discarded at curbside. Some may be casing houses. Some people apparently are emboldened to step on property and “take stuff” that clearly has not been put out with the trash. Osmond Street neighbors reported scrappers going though the alley and doing just that. Other neighbors have reported porch and lawn items stolen. Lt. Bier urges Fallsers to watch and to report tag #’s and other descriptions of suspected thieves to 9-1-1. The overall pattern of crime reported indicates that 50% of residential burglaries and 30% of car break-ins occur during the day. “You have to secure your property…You have to be on guard,” reminded Lt. Bier. More helpers are needed to patrol with EFTW, day or evening. If you can do your part, please call EFTW at 215-848-2033.
