East Falls has two City Recreation Centers, at opposite ends of its two square miles. In order for them to offer, or continue to offer, programs, residents need to be involved, either as participants or volunteers. Information for both centers can be found on the City’s website, www.phila.gov, or by calling the respective centers (contact info below). McDevitt Recreation Center, 3501 Scotts Lane, is home to the East Falls Sports Association. McDevitt provides year-round programs for youth, including baseball, softball, soccer, hockey, basketball and volleyball, as well as weight lifting for the 18-40 age group and a beginning fitness/aerobics class for women. McDevitt has a summer camp for 6-10 year olds, which runs daily from 9am-3pm. For particulars on programming at McDevitt, call 215-685-2197. Gustine Lake Recreation Center is located at 4863 Ridge Avenue, adjacent to the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center (AAYT). Gustine’s summer camp program with AAYT is full, but Arts and Crafts, Basketball (both league and free play), Chess (ages 6-adult), and Martial Arts are ongoing. Aerobics and yoga classes will start in the fall. For additional information on programs at Gustine Rec Center, call 215-685-2586. |
