Make A Splash At Your Library! Summer Reading, June 16-August 11.
Glaxo SmithKline Science in the Summer. We will be hosting a 2-day workshop on July 15th and 16th about Physical Science/Electricity. The workshops are for children entering grades 2 and 3 (Level 1) and grades 4 through 6 (Level 2). Classes are taught by certified teachers and are limited to 15 children per workshop. All children must be pre-registered to attend, and parents must come to the library to pre-register their children.

Bastille Day Celebration. In Honor of Bastille Day on July 14th, and in conjunction with the community events going on in East Falls, we are hosting events at the library that include: a 2pm showing of Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame for kids and a 6pm showing of Sophia Coppolla’s feature film, Marie Antoinette for adults.

Independence Picnic. Celebrate Dietz and Watson Hot Dog Day in Historic Philadelphia and meet Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and a host of other historic characters. While you’re here, visit other uniquely Philadelphia attractions like the Independence Visitor Center and the National Constitution Center, all located in this remarkably historic area. Stick around for live music in the evening and the pre-opening of Liberty 360, the new 3-D, HD, 360 degree indoor show at the new Historic Philadelphia Center.
8pm, “POPS on Independence” at Independence Hall. Peter Nero and the Philly Pops® celebrates America’s birthday with “POPS on Independence,” an annual free concert at Independence Hall. Come join the celebration and participate in one of Philadelphia’s most popular Fourth of July traditions. “POPS on Independence” is presented by Amway Global.

Chinatown Block Party in the heart of Chinatown at 10th and Arch Streets. Join Mayor Michael A. Nutter and other local dignitaries as they kick off the day’s festivities at a ceremony honoring America’s 234th birthday.
11am – 12pm, The Philadelphia Independence Day Parade:
Life, Liberty & You. In Historic Philadelphia. Bring your flags, patriotic spirit and plenty of energy to America’s best 4th of July parade and revel in the pageantry that has made this march through Historic Philadelphia a new local tradition.
1:30pm, Bell Tapping Ceremony.
Liberty Bell Center, 500 Market Street. Descendents of the original Declaration of Independence signers honor their ancestors by ceremonially tapping this symbol of American freedom.
12noon – 8pm, Party on the Parkway.
Benjamin Franklin Parkway, 20th Street to Eakins Oval. The whole family will enjoy this afternoon of fun, free entertainment and of course, lots of food! Stay for the Life, Liberty & You concert starring The Goo Goo Dolls with jaw dropping fireworks later in the evening. But come early, because you won’t want to miss hearing the other great main stage acts: The Roots, with special guest R&B and soul singer Chrisette Michele, and jazz funk guitarist and vocalist Chuck Brown.
